It all started in 1995, Anthony Miller and partner Robert Hauser imported San Francisco’s Mission-style burrito to Colorado, opening the first Qdoba Mexican Grill in Denver. Qdoba immediately won over customers and critics with the restaurant’s Mexican flavors and fresh ingredients.

I mean really, who doesn’t love all those delicious, savory, mouth watering ingredients of fresh guacamole, beans of your choice, savory grilled chicken or flat iron steak, grilled veggies, your choice of fresh salsa topped with that amazingly melt in your mouth shredded cheese and smooth sour cream, all rolled-up in a that warmly welcoming tortilla!?!

For those that have been crying for a downtown Louisville Qdoba, I’ve got Qdboa-riffic news for you, IT HAS ARRIVED! The grand opening is Monday, March 8th, 2010 and guess what… the first 10 people in at 7AM Monday morning get not one, but TWO FREE breakfast burritos, or so says their TWITTER account (https://twitter.com/qdobalouisville). Pssst… follow them, no seriously – follow them on Twitter and you’ll have the opportunity to win free delicious FOOD! Wear that cake and eat it too…

Wedding costs can leave a happy couple bankrupt before the bride even sashays down the aisle, but imagine if you could combine two of the priciest wedding day elements into one price.

Lukka Sigurdardottir decided to ditch the overpriced fondant and tulle and created an edible wedding cake dress for the budget-conscious bride that has no desire to dance (or even move, for that matter), but loves yummy checkered cake. A Vera Wang, it’s not, but, it sure looks tasty.

Lying in bed this morning I was brainstorming ideas of things to make. I happened to check my phone and saw these unbelievable photos that my friend had posted on facebook of his friend Lukka Sigurdardottir who made this seriously unbelievable cake. All of my ideas seem so small in comparison! Not only has Lukka mastered the checkered cake, but she has taken it to a whole new level. I am in awe and inspired. I had to share these with you.

The “New” Karate Kid Movie – Trailer

The Karate Kid trailer has hit the web. The film opens June 11th and stars Jaden Smith, Taraji P. Henson and Jackie Chan. Only thing is — from the trailer, the movie looks nothing like the original Karate Kid from 1984. I am not sure if this is a remake or a completely different movie. Even Jackie Chan was recently confused and told MTV.com, “I don’t know [what it’s going to be called]. Probably ‘Kung Fu Kid’ in China and ‘Karate Kid’ in America. Maybe a different title? I don’t know. But mostly we’ve called it ‘The Kung Fu Kid.’”

SAN FRANCISCO — YouTube’s coming attractions now include movie rentals.

The Internet’s most popular video channel will make its debut as a rental outlet Friday to help promote some of the movies that will be shown at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

It’s part of a test that YouTube hopes will encourage more studios to rent movies through its site, eventually creating a new financial stream to supplement the Internet ads that bring in most of its revenue.

The first five films available to rent through YouTube will cost $3.99 for a 48-hour viewing period. Movie studios will be able to set their own prices, with rental viewing windows ranging from one to 90 days. YouTube will get an unspecified commission from each rental.

The expansion announced Wednesday marks the latest step in YouTube’s evolution from a quirky and sometimes edgy Web site that showed free clips posted by wannabe stars, showoffs, bored teens, lonely hearts and video pirates.

While YouTube still has plenty of eclectic entertainment, the site increasingly has been trying to reel in more traditional fare from movie, television and music producers.

The reason: most major advertisers are more comfortable placing their commercials next to professionally produced videos than alongside wacky – and potentially offensive – clips posted by amateurs.

The strategy appears to be paying off for YouTube and its owner, Google Inc. Barclays Capital analyst Douglas Anmuch expects YouTube to generate about $700 million in revenue this year, an estimated 55 percent increase from 2009. If YouTube hits that target, it likely will turn profitable, helping to justify the $1.76 billion in stock that Google paid for the site more than three years ago.

YouTube says it is diversifying into movie rentals to meet user demand and provide an alternative means of distribution for movie makers that don’t want ads cluttering up their work.

There already are plenty of places to rent movies that can be downloaded or streamed over high-speed Internet connections. The major vendors include Apple Inc.’s iTunes store, Amazon.com Inc., Netflix Inc. and Blockbuster Inc.

YouTube’s biggest challenge figures to be a familiar one: persuading movie studios to make their digital rentals available at the same time the films are released on DVDs and Blu-ray discs. The studios aren’t keen on that particular idea, partly because selling DVDs and Blu-ray discs is so profitable.

The Most Beautiful Word In the English Language

Bruna Martinuzzi is the President of Clarion Enterprises Ltd., a firm that specializes in emotional intelligence, leadership and presentation skills training. Her latest book is The Leader as a Mensch: Become the Kind of Person Others Want to Follow.

Words have enormous power. They can make us erupt into laughter or bring tears to our eyes. They can influence, inspire, manipulate and shock. They can build and destroy. Some words have different effects on different people. One such word is “humility.” It is one of those words that is seldom in neutral gear. Some love the word and all that it stands for. Some almost fear it and interpret it as being synonymous with timidity or a lack of self-confidence.

The word “humility” first struck me in the context of leadership when Jim Collins mentioned it in his seminal work Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap…and Others Don’t. In this book, Collins examined companies that went from good to great by sustaining fifteen-year cumulative stock returns at or below the general stock market, and after a transition point, cumulative returns at least three times the market over the next fifteen years.

Among the many characteristics that distinguished these companies from others is that they all had a Level 5 leader. Level 5 leaders direct their ego away from themselves to the larger goal of leading their company to greatness. These leaders are a complex, paradoxical mix of intense professional will and extreme personal humility. They will create superb results but shun public adulation, and are never boastful. They are described as modest.

An example of such a leader who epitomized humility is David Packard, the co-founder of Hewlett-Packard, who, in Jim Collins’ words, defined himself as a HP man first and a CEO second. He was a man of the people, practicing management by walking around. Shunning all manner of publicity, Packard is quoted as saying: “You shouldn’t gloat about anything you’ve done; you ought to keep going and find something better to do.”

An interesting dichotomy is that, often, the higher people have risen and the more they have accomplished, the higher their humility index is. Those who achieve the most brag the least, and the more secure they are with themselves, the more humble they are. “True merit, like a river, the deeper it is, the less noise it makes.”

Here are a few suggestions on practicing humility so that it can help you as a small business owner:

Allow the other person to be in the limelight. There are times when swallowing one’s pride is particularly difficult, such as when we are engaged in a contest of perfection with each side seeking to look good. If you find yourself in such no-win situations, adopt strategies to ensure that you don’t lose your grace. One such strategy is to just stop talking and allow the other person to be in the limelight.
Say these words, “You are right.” They are magical words that will produce more peace of mind than a week at an expensive retreat.
Stop preaching or coaching without permission. Is a zeal to impose your point of view overtaking discretion? Is your correction of others reflective of your own needs?
Seek input on how you are doing as a leader. Ask others, “How am I doing?” It takes humility to ask such a question, and even more humility to consider the answer.
Encourage the practice of humility in your company through your own example. Every time you share credit for successes with others, you reinforce the ethos for your constituents. Consider mentoring or coaching emerging leaders on this key attribute of leadership.

There are many benefits to practicing humility: it improves relationships across all levels, it reduces anxiety, it encourages more openness and paradoxically, and it enhances one’s self-confidence. It opens a window to a higher self.

Many years ago, one of my university professors mentioned that “windowsill” was voted the most beautiful word in the English language. Being an armchair linguist, this factoid naturally stayed with me. For me, “humility” has replaced “windowsill” as the most beautiful word in the English language.
