Guess who’s risen from the ashes… that’s right, your favorite local Highland’s Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant – Cafe Mimosa. Best of all, it’s no longer next to the Animal Clinic – so STOP THE cliche Asian jokes! The new location is where the old Jarfis used to be, 1543 Bardstown Road.
After fire destroyed Cafe Mimosa (1216 Bardstown Road) in January, owner Phat Le wanted to rebuild the restaurant and reopen. But when the pace of reconstruction didn’t suit him, Le found another Bardstown Road spot: the space vacated by Jarfi’s Bistro (1543 Bardstown Road) in June.
“When Jarfi’s left, it made it much quicker to go there and open the business,” said Le, who will continue serving Vietnamese food at the restaurant. He plans to open in mid-September. “We will have a sushi bar here and party rooms. This place is much bigger and gives me an opportunity to serve more customers.”
Eight months without an income has been tough, Le said, but he believes the new arrangement will be better in the long run. “We’ll have a bigger kitchen than we had, we’ll still do delivery and we’re going to have catering, too.” (Courier-Journal)
